Validate a Patient Medicare Card Number

The Healthcare Identifier tools are provided by Mr Russell Alexander McDonell to assist the Healthcare Industry and other interested parties in progressing towards conformance and compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.

For a discussion of the underlying standards and structures see Australian Health Identifiers

The tools and materials are provided free of charge on an "as is" basis, with no warranties of any kind.

The Validate tools only check the structure of the identifier and checksum if there is one.
To validate a real Australian Healthcare Identifier you should use the Services Australia Health Professional Online Services (HPOS) portal.

Enter a Patient Medicare Card number, then hit Validate to get it validated.

The Medicare Card number can be specified as a string of 11 digits, or as a string of 10 digit, immediately followed by the "/" character, immediately followed by a single digit (for example 1234567890/1).
